Primo Ramdisk — high-speed memory volumes
Primo Ramdisk lets you create disk-like volumes that live entirely in system RAM, delivering much faster read and write performance and far lower latency than conventional disks. Because all I/O happens in memory, these volatile volumes are ideal for workloads and applications that benefit from extremely quick random access.
How it manages system resources
The application assigns portions of physical memory to RAM-disks on demand, so you can tailor sizes without consuming or cluttering the physical drive. Allocation is handled dynamically to keep system resources balanced and to avoid unnecessarily tying up storage or memory.
Supported file formats
- NTFS — full-featured file system support for Windows-aware features
- exFAT — good for larger files and cross-platform compatibility
- FAT32 — wide compatibility with older systems and devices
- FAT — legacy support for very old environments
These file systems let the RAM-disk be used immediately after creation and can be made available at boot without extra reformatting steps.
Saving data and boot persistence
Primo Ramdisk can capture the contents of a RAM-disk to an image file so data can be restored after a reboot. You can configure it to write the RAM-disk state to persistent storage and reload it at startup, providing a balance between high-speed temporary storage and longer-term data retention.
Compatibility and expanded memory use on older Windows
On 32-bit Windows builds, Primo Ramdisk includes mechanisms to make better use of installed physical memory than the operating system normally allows, enabling larger RAM-disks and improved performance on legacy systems.
