Overview of the free Hold'em title
PokerTH is a complimentary computer card game that brings Texas Hold'em to your desktop. If you’re tired of the usual Solitaire, Hearts or FreeCell bundles, this offers a more social table experience while keeping a familiar, easy-to-learn interface.
How the game plays
You’ll find the controls and on-screen layout similar to other card titles, so newcomers will be up and running quickly. The game focuses on the Texas Hold'em variant — one of the most widespread poker formats in casinos and home games.
Opponents and match options
- Single-player tables let you face up to six computer-controlled rivals.
- For human opponents you can host or join networked matches over a LAN or the Internet.
- Note that online play relies on a working server and an open network path between players.
Connection and testing notes
During my review the online lobby failed to respond, so I was unable to complete live Internet matches. It’s likely a local networking restriction (for example, an office router blocking the required connection) prevented access rather than a client-side limitation.
Customization and audio
PokerTH includes a comprehensive options menu to tailor rules and appearance to your preference. The only notable omission is built-in ambient casino music — however, you can easily add your own soundtrack by running an external MP3 player alongside the game.
