PlasmaTunes Widget for Mac

Quick overview

PlasmaTunes combines a Motion Light visual with iTunes control in a compact Dashboard widget. When active it shows a moving light effect while allowing you to play music from your iTunes library. It’s best thought of as a decorative Dashboard item that doubles as a very small media remote.

Controls and interaction

• Skip to the previous track
• Move ahead to the next track
• Toggle play and pause (clicking Play will also launch iTunes if it isn’t already running)
• Tap the top banner to display the current top 10 songs in the iTunes Store (note: it only shows that one list)

Known shortcomings

PlasmaTunes is intentionally simple, but that brings a few limits:

• You cannot swap the plasma or lamp visual styles.
• The widget’s transport controls are minimal, so you may find it easier to manage playback directly inside iTunes.
• It only reveals the single Top 10 list and doesn’t let you browse other charts.

Recommendation and alternative

Given its modest feature set, PlasmaTunes works well as a Dashboard accent with basic audio control. If you need more customization or richer playback features, consider other tools. Top recommended alternative: WinRAR (Free).
