What Pixect Is and How It Works
Pixect is a free web-based photo booth that runs in your browser and uses your device’s camera to capture still images and record video. It functions much like a basic camera app: you point, apply a visual style if you want, then take a shot. There is a short pause — roughly three seconds — between pressing the shutter and the picture being taken.
Visual Effects Included
The app includes a range of creative filter options you can apply live to your shots, for example:
- Pop-art style (high-contrast, vivid colors)
- X‑ray/inverted tonal effect
- Light-tunnel / streaking-light warp
- Stretch / distortion transforms
- Fisheye wide‑angle curvature
- Colored‑pencil sketch look
- Soft glow / bloom
- Comic / posterized edge treatment
- Sepia vintage tone
- Monochrome / black‑and‑white
Collages and Camera Features
Pixect goes beyond single photos by offering a collage tool. You can take several self-portraits and combine them into one composite image, with the ability to adjust the framing for each slot. The app also lets you flip the camera view horizontally or vertically before capturing a frame, which is handy for composing shots.
Basic Editing Capabilities and Limits
After taking pictures, you can perform simple adjustments, but advanced retouching is limited:
- Saturation control
- Hue adjustment
- Contrast slider
- Brightness control
There are minor tools to help remove blurred or out‑of‑focus spots, but for thorough image correction or advanced edits you’ll want a dedicated photo editor.
Video Recording and Sharing
Pixect can record video in addition to taking photos. Recording is straightforward and follows the same live‑filter workflow as stills. When your image or clip is ready, you can share it directly to social networks from within the web app.
Quick Assessment
Pixect is a straightforward, easy-to-use camera application with a useful set of live filters and a simple collage maker. It’s not designed to replace full-featured photo editors — its adjustment tools are intentionally basic — but if you want a convenient, browser-based way to capture and stylize photos or short videos, it’s worth trying.
