Quick overview

PiP-Tool is a lightweight Windows utility that adds a Picture-in-Picture viewing option to your desktop. It creates a small, resizable playback window that stays above other programs so you can monitor video or visual content while you work in other apps.

Using the tool

The program presents a simple interface for choosing which application window to mirror and for cropping the exact portion you want visible. Once configured, the floating player tracks the selected area so you can continue tasks uninterrupted while keeping an eye on your media.

Important limitation

PiP-Tool cannot capture windows that have been minimized. If the source window is minimized, the PiP window will stop updating and the floating view will not function until the source is restored.

Alternatives to consider

  • OnTopReplica — A free utility that clones a window into a detachable, always-on-top pane with cropping and zoom controls.
  • VLC (built-in floating mode) — Popular media player with an option to keep the video on top while you use other programs.
  • SHAREit (free) — Listed here as another free option users sometimes try for moving content between devices or alternative viewing workflows.
