Quick overview
PingInfoView, from NirSoft, is a compact Windows utility for checking reachability and latency of hosts. It runs multiple ping checks at once, collects the results in a table, and can save those results for later review. The tool is lightweight and geared toward users who need a simple way to monitor network response times across many endpoints.
What ping tells you
A ping measures whether a hostname or IP address responds to network requests and how long it takes, typically reported in milliseconds. That round-trip time gives you a basic picture of latency and can help identify slow or unreachable endpoints.
Getting started — first steps
- Launch the program and begin the initial setup.
- Add the hostnames and/or IP addresses you want to monitor.
- Adjust options such as the ping timeout (ms), how often pings are issued, and whether the application should save your list for the next session.
- Start the test — the application will probe each entry and display results in a grid.
- If you have many hosts, import them from a file instead of entering them one by one.
Important capabilities
- Import large lists of servers for batch testing.
- Configure scheduled or automated ping sequences to run continuously.
- Save output to text, HTML, or XML log files for tracking and reporting.
- Support for any number of hosts so you can monitor dozens or hundreds of endpoints.
- Set ping intervals and timeouts to match your monitoring needs.
- Option to have the program remember your last entries for convenience.
Custom quick-action menu
Since version 3.15, PingInfoView lets you add custom commands to its top-pane menu so you can run common actions directly on a selected host (for example: ping again, open host info, or open the address in a browser). To add or edit these shortcuts:
- Close PingInfoView completely.
- Open the PingInfoView.cfg file in the program folder with a plain text editor (Notepad or equivalent).
- Define up to ten menu entries; each entry requires a display caption and the command to execute when selected.
Things to watch out for
When you set very high concurrency or overly aggressive ping frequencies, PingInfoView can occasionally report false negatives (hosts marked unreachable). If you see unexpected failures, reduce the number of simultaneous pings or increase timeouts and intervals.
Recommendation
For lightweight, multi-host ping testing on Windows, PingInfoView is practical and efficient. Its fast setup, automated options, import/export features, and customizable action menu make it a solid choice for both casual troubleshooting and routine network monitoring.
