Quick snapshot
Octogeddon is a quirky indie action-strategy title where you control a vengeful octopus wreaking havoc on human forces. It leans into silly humor and accessible controls while masking a modest layer of tactical planning beneath its surface.
Creator and origins
The game marks a return for George Fan, the designer behind Plants vs. Zombies, who left his former studio after disagreements over future directions following that game's commercial success and EA’s acquisition. Octogeddon is one of the first projects from his independent studio, a deliberate move back toward compact, idea-driven gameplay.
How the game plays
Each level challenges you to survive successive waves of attackers by rotating the octopus left or right to aim its limbs. Combat is straightforward: you fend off foes, collect the coins they drop, then spend those coins on new attachments that change how the creature fights.
Progression and customization
Defeated enemies award currency used to buy animal arms and other upgrades that add abilities and modify playstyle. These attachments introduce strategic choices about which combinations to pursue to handle later, tougher waves.
Platform support
Octogeddon can be installed on Windows 11, making it compatible with the newest Microsoft desktop release.
Verdict
The title captures much of the playful charm that made Plants vs. Zombies memorable, but it doesn’t quite match that earlier game’s depth or broad, immediate appeal. Its decisions come slower and the long-term hooks are lighter, so it’s entertaining for short bursts but less compelling as a prolonged, mass-appeal experience.
