Product summary
Nursing Sim is a mobile application that helps nursing students practice clinical decision-making around staff assignments. The app recreates the layered process of matching nurses’ skills with patient needs, assessing patient acuity, and distributing caseloads fairly over a shift. Because it runs scenarios in a virtual setting, learners can experiment, make mistakes, and learn from them without risking patient safety.
Core learning targets
- Strengthen judgment for assigning nurses based on competency and workload.
- Improve ability to evaluate and prioritize patients by acuity.
- Practice balancing fairness and efficiency when allocating cases during a shift.
How it supports classroom learning
Designed for use alongside coursework, Nursing Sim translates lecture concepts into interactive scenarios. Students confront realistic, time-pressured choices that reinforce leadership and management principles, helping them move from theory to hands-on application before entering clinical environments.
Origin and academic partnership
This tool was created in collaboration with faculty member Larry Z. Slater for the Leadership & Management course at the Rory Meyers College of Nursing. The goal of the collaboration was to create a safe, practical training space that prepares students for high-risk, real-world nursing situations.
