What the app does in VR
Netflix VR brings the streaming service into a virtual-reality setting, letting subscribers watch television shows and movies inside a VR environment. The app is built to work with Google's Daydream hardware now and is expected to reach additional platforms later. It gives you access to Netflix’s catalog and features while you’re wearing a compatible headset.
Limitations to be aware of
- Motion can cause a noticeable softening of the image; scenes tend to blur slightly when you move your head.
- Using the app may produce above-average device warmth; in our tests the headset became uncomfortably warm, and other users have reported similar heating.
- The visual fidelity doesn’t match a large, native TV or monitor, so some viewers will prefer the standard (non-VR) Netflix experience.
What still works well
- The full breadth of Netflix’s content remains available: classic shows and films from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, recent movies, originals, and exclusive titles.
- You get the same library structure, genres, and special editions you expect from Netflix, provided you have an active subscription.
Is it worth trying?
If you already own a compatible VR headset and have a Netflix subscription, it’s worth experimenting with the app. Early adopters will appreciate accessing Netflix in a new format as the app continues to improve. However, if crisp picture quality or prolonged comfort is your priority, you may prefer sticking with the traditional app for now.
