Name Mangler is a Mac utility for renaming groups of files quickly. It combines an easy-to-use interface with powerful options so you can add or change sequences, insert text fragments, and apply complex patterns across many files at once.

Core renaming options

• Add or change suffixes to filenames

How to perform a batch rename

• Press the Play button to execute the rename after you’ve configured the action
• Choose the specific operation you want to run (for example, replace text, add numbers, or change case)
• Drag the files you want to rename into the app window to load them

Droplets and music support

• Create a saved droplet (via the down-arrow menu) that lives on your Mac — drop files onto it at any time to rename them automatically
• Build playlists and work with most common audio formats when organizing music collections

Known limitations

• Drag-and-drop can become sluggish if you select a large number of items at once, which may slow workflow for very big batches

Recent updates

• Added two Advanced-mode operations: decrement and increment for arithmetic-based renaming
• Introduced a preference to allow filenames to begin with a dot; enable it with: defaults write com.manytricks.NameMangler "Allow Dot Prefix" -bool YES
• Fixed an issue that previously restricted sequential numbering to six digits, removing that cap so numbers can be longer now
