Quick summary of the game
MultiVersus is a free-to-play platform fighter built by Player First Games and released by Warner Bros. Games. The title gathers characters from Warner Bros.’ wide range of properties — from classic cartoons to DC heroes and other TV and film franchises — and places them into chaotic, arena-style battles.
Core gameplay and match types
The game follows the platform-fighter formula popularized by Super Smash Bros., focusing on knocking opponents off stages rather than depleting health bars. Players can pick from several match formats, including:
- Free-for-all brawls with multiple combatants
- Two-versus-two team matches for cooperative play
- One-on-one duels for focused competition
MultiVersus supports cross-play so friends on different systems can battle together, and it also offers cross-progression so you can continue your progress on another device. To enable both of these features you must sign in with a WB Games Account.
Environments and stage variety
Maps repurpose familiar settings from Warner Bros. properties into dynamic arenas. You can fight in locations such as Batman’s Batcave, Finn and Jake’s treehouse from Adventure Time, and other recognizable realms adapted into interactive battlegrounds.
What Season 5 brings
Season 5 adds several new playable characters and gameplay elements. New arrivals include Aquaman (unlocked at the first tier of the Battle Pass) and Lola Bunny (obtainable through the daily login calendar). The season also introduces additional in-game events and new maps. New item additions in the arenas are:
- Armor Crush
- Heroic Landing
- Dashing Confidence
Season 5 also expands core combat systems with mechanics like camera adjustments, hit pause, automatic techs, shields, and a dodge system that includes a dodge meter and dodge-cancel options.
Final seasonal update and shutdown notice
When Season 5 launched, the developers confirmed it would be the last content season. Official online services are scheduled to end on May 30, 2025. Until then, all online features remain available.
Microtransactions have been disabled for new purchases: you can no longer buy Gleamium, though any remaining Gleamium or character tickets in players’ accounts can still be spent until Season 5 concludes.
Offline play and preserving progress
Before the servers shut down, the game can be set up for local play. If you download the current build and sign in during Season 5 (before May 2025), the client will create a local save file tied to your device, allowing:
- Solo matches against AI
- Local multiplayer with up to three friends
This lets players continue enjoying the game’s content offline after online services end.
Closing thoughts
Even with its impending closure, MultiVersus offered a memorable crossover experience by combining beloved Warner Bros. characters in a lively platform-fighting formula. Season 5 serves as the game’s farewell package, delivering fresh fighters, stages, and tweaks for fans to enjoy before the servers go offline.
