Speed up and tidy your iMac or MacBook
If your older Mac has started running slower, it could be struggling with a newer version of macOS or simply cluttered with unneeded applications and files. Movavi Mac Cleaner is an all-in-one utility that scans the system for items consuming disk space and hogging resources, then offers tools to remove or optimize them.
Quick scan and initial findings
After installing and launching the app, it immediately runs a brief system scan. On my machine it reported a large amount of reclaimable data — roughly 44.5 GB — much of which was obvious (files sitting in the Trash) but several gigabytes were hidden inside caches, temporary data and unused language packs. The instant scan is convenient, and it does appear to accurately surface the areas where space can be recovered.
A single prominent button invites you to start cleaning. If you stick with the trial, keep in mind the limitation: the demo will only actually remove up to 500 MB of data before prompting you to purchase the full version.
What the free trial gives you
The trial includes a few useful tools that don’t require payment:
- A RAM cleaner that frees inactive memory to help speed up tasks (results vary depending on system usage).
- A configurable firewall for basic control over incoming and outgoing network connections.
These functions can be handy right away, even if you don’t upgrade.
Paid tools that make maintenance easier
The paid edition unlocks a set of more powerful cleanup and maintenance utilities that save time compared with manual housekeeping. Key paid features include:
- A one-click application uninstaller that lists installed apps so you can select and remove several programs at once.
- A scanner for duplicate and very large files to help you locate items that are taking up disproportionate space.
- A secure shredder for permanently deleting sensitive files so they cannot be recovered.
The app’s checkbox-based workflow is its strongest advantage — instead of hunting through folders and preferences, you can select items from lists and remove them in bulk.
Should you upgrade?
Whether the full version is worth buying depends on how much manual cleanup you’re willing to do. If you don’t mind digging through dozens of apps and folders, you can reclaim space without paying. If convenience matters and you’d prefer a single tool to locate and remove large files, duplicates and unused apps quickly, the paid version can be justified.
My recommendation: try the free trial to evaluate its scanning and the RAM/firewall tools, then decide if the convenience of the full cleanup suite merits the cost for your situation.
