Overview: Mobile Sandbox Inspired by People Playground
Melon Playground is a free mobile simulation that recreates the sandbox-style mayhem popularized by People Playground. Built by Yuri Podvalov’s original idea, this handheld version lets you experiment with ragdoll physics — from shooting and stabbing to dismembering — within an open-ended playground that has few constraints or objectives.
What the Experience Feels Like
The app keeps the core loop of the original: place objects, arm them with tools, and watch how ragdolls react. Because the visuals are intentionally simple and somewhat wonky, the gore reads milder than the PC counterpart even when the actions are violent. The controls are tuned for touch, so there’s no big learning curve if you’ve seen the desktop game.
Visual Style and Presentation
Melon Playground adopts a minimalist, 2D retro look. The characters and animations are deliberately rough around the edges, which softens the impact of the more brutal interactions. That aesthetic makes the game feel lighter despite the same dark premise as its inspiration.
Available Tools and Arms
- Guns and ranged weapons for long-distance interactions
- Blades and cutting implements for close-up damage
- Toxins and status effects such as poisons
Note: the arsenal is more limited than the desktop title, so you won’t find the same breadth of gadgets and gizmos.
Playable Characters and Objects
- Corn-shaped (and other novelty) figures
- Pumpkin-themed and other stylized humanoids
There’s a small roster of toy-like characters rather than the extensive selection found on PC, but the variety still adds creative options for scenarios.
Known Problems and Limitations
- Ragdolls tend to perish from very minor hits, making some experiments feel less nuanced
- Grouping multiple objects can cause unexpected collisions and physics glitches
- Weapons may detach or fly off when they rotate while resting on moving or floating pieces
These bugs can limit more elaborate builds or contraptions and occasionally break immersion.
Verdict: Who Should Try It
If you want a mobile way to tinker with People Playground-style mechanics without a computer, Melon Playground is a convenient alternative. It’s straightforward to jump into and retains the sandbox’s core appeal. On the downside, smaller item sets and several physics quirks reduce its depth, and the violent premise makes it unsuitable for sensitive players.
