Brief overview

MediaInfo inspects multimedia files and produces a detailed report so you can identify the codecs and other technical details needed to play media that your player won’t open. It analyzes the file you select and presents everything it can extract about that item.

Technical details it extracts

  • Codec and encoding data (video/audio codec, compression type, bitrate)
  • Stream attributes (channel layout, sample rate, frame rate, resolution)
  • Container and file identifiers (container type, file name, file size)
  • Playback information (duration, bit depth, number of streams)

Ways to view and save the findings

  • Exportable outputs such as HTML, XML, plain text and other common formats
  • Visual layouts including a hierarchical/tree view that groups streams and properties
  • Simple text views and compact data sheets for quick reading

Features that are missing or could improve workflow

  • No built-in option to print a report directly from the app
  • Lacks automatic online lookups for extended metadata or codec information
  • Does not offer to download or install missing codecs for you

Conclusion and release notes

MediaInfo gives a comprehensive readout of audio and video files, supports multiple presentation styles and can save reports in various formats, but it doesn’t include printing or automatic online/codec support.
