Overview: System-wide proxy for macOS
Keeping your online activity private is increasingly challenging. MacProxy provides a straightforward way to route all network traffic through a proxy server so your IP is masked and your browsing appears anonymous across the system.
Applications and services supported
- Telnet
- FTP
- iChat
- Firefox
- Safari
Supported proxy protocols
- SOCKS5
- SOCKS4a
- SOCKS4
Installing and configuring
After installation, MacProxy launches its main window automatically so you can begin setup immediately instead of opening the System Preferences pane. To add a proxy, open the Proxies tab, click the + button, assign a name and select the protocol you want to use. You can operate the software either from its standalone interface or via the System Preferences extension.
Features for management and monitoring
- View real-time traffic to and from the configured proxy.
- Configure and switch between multiple proxy entries with a few clicks.
- Use an iPhone as a local proxy endpoint to tunnel traffic through your mobile device.
Who should use it and limitations
MacProxy is well suited for network administrators and users who need to preserve privacy or access region-restricted sites. The app is extremely simple to use, but it would be more convenient if the developer bundled a few public proxy examples for trial purposes — you’ll need a working proxy already to get the most out of it.
