Get into the spirit of any holiday by dressing your Mac desktop in a matching theme. Instead of only swapping wallpapers, icons and screensavers, MacLampsX lets you ring your desktop with decorative lights that match the season. The app places strings of virtual bulbs around the screen and lets you pair them with themed wallpapers and screensavers for a complete seasonal makeover.

What the app offers

My experience and limitations

I found the light effects entertaining and easy to configure, especially the options for flashing speed and z-order placement (above or below folders and app windows). However, I couldn't get the music player or the screensaver integration to function during my testing — both features failed to start.
