JIMU for Android

Overview

The JIMU app is a companion for UBTECH’s JIMU robot kits. It functions as an interactive building guide and an introductory coding platform tailored for kids. Free and designed with young users in mind, the app helps children explore robotics and express creativity while they assemble and program their models.

Core features of the app

• Interactive tutorials and step-by-step assembly guidance that show required parts and let users move forward or back through each stage
• Built-in Blockly visual programming lessons so beginners can learn coding concepts using drag-and-drop blocks
• Bluetooth pairing to control finished models and trigger preprogrammed actions such as dances and gestures
• Practical maintenance guides, including how to remove batteries, and instructions for the Pose → Record → Play functionality

Types of robot kits available

• A dragon model with detailed articulation and an advanced appearance for experienced builders
• Playful unicorn designs that appeal to younger children and first-time constructors
• A WALL-E–inspired tank-style robot (Tankbot) with rugged movement for more hands-on play

Learning and skill development

The app doubles as a teaching tool. As children follow the build steps, they also encounter coding exercises and practical problem-solving tasks. The visual Blockly environment removes syntax barriers, allowing kids to focus on logic, sequencing, and debugging while having fun. Over time, this helps strengthen critical thinking and engineering curiosity.

Performance and limitations

The JIMU app is primarily useful only to people who own a JIMU kit; most core functions (assembly instructions, model controls, and many tutorials) assume you have the hardware. Some users report occasional slow load times, but these tend to be minor annoyances rather than deal-breakers.

Recommendation

If you plan to buy a JIMU robot for a child, install the JIMU app as well—it's the easiest way for them to build, customize, and program their robot while learning foundational coding and problem-solving skills. If you don’t own one of the kits, the app’s usefulness will be limited.
