What this package provides

Java Runtime Environment (64-bit) delivers the core Java platform components — the Java Virtual Machine, class libraries, and browser plug-ins — required to execute Java desktop applications and web applets on 64-bit Windows systems. It is distributed at no cost and enables rich multimedia and animated content developed for Java to run on your PC.

System compatibility and limitations

• This build is specifically intended for 64-bit editions of Windows; it is not suitable for 32-bit operating systems.
• If you install a 32-bit Java runtime on a 64-bit Windows machine you may encounter problems, such as issues with updates and integration.
• Note: JRE provides the runtime environment only. If you plan to write, compile or package Java programs, install the Java Development Kit (JDK), which contains the full software development kit.

How to install on a 64-bit Windows PC

Before starting: ensure you have administrator privileges and close any open applications, including web browsers.

Installation steps:

• Place the downloaded installer in an easily located folder if you intend to copy it to another computer (the executable can be run on machines without internet access).
• Run the installer, follow the prompts (click “Next” as needed), and allow the process to complete — the wizard usually finishes within minutes.
• After installation, access Java settings through the Control Panel: a Java icon will open the Java Control Panel where you can adjust runtime options and update settings.

Additional installation notes:

• The installer does not require a persistent internet connection to finish; you can download once and reuse the file on offline systems.
• Closing open programs before installing helps avoid file-in-use errors.

For developers: choose the JDK

If your goal is to develop Java applications (write source code, compile, or build packages), the JRE alone is insufficient. Download the Java Development Kit instead — it includes development tools, compilers, and additional libraries necessary for building applications.
