Most people visit the Mediterranean for sun and sea — in Ikariam they come to construct an island empire. Instead of modern resorts, this game invites you to recreate the feel of an ancient civilization: you begin with a small island, fertile soil and nothing else, and your objective is to transform it into the dominant power in the region.

Primary objective

Your core task is to expand a humble settlement into a thriving city-state. That means gathering key resources, developing production and infrastructure, training forces for defense, and engaging in trade with other players to grow your influence.

Early steps and resources

To get the economy moving you must collect and manage several resource types:

• Vine produce (Wine)
• Sulphur deposits (Sulphur)
• Glass components (Crystal Glass)
• Quarry material (Marble)
• Construction supplies (Building Material)

Allocate workers to your production buildings, balance consumption and growth, and upgrade facilities as your population and needs increase.

Expansion, defense and conflict

As your town grows you’ll attract rivals on the same island. Build small military units to protect your settlement, and fortify key buildings when necessary. Conflicts are player-driven, so diplomacy and timing are as important as raw strength.

Trade and shipping

Establish a trading port to move goods to and from other players. Ships let you swap surplus resources for what you lack, creating a regional economy that can support larger projects and armies.

Guidance and perspective

The game provides four advisers who alert you whenever important decisions or problems arise. You can also switch camera modes to view the whole island or zoom into your town for more detailed management.
