Why protect files on a shared computer
When multiple people use the same machine, private documents and sensitive data can be exposed accidentally or intentionally. Hiding and locking files prevents others from opening, viewing, or modifying them. Vovsoft’s Hide Files makes it simple to keep folders, individual files, and even whole drives inaccessible to anyone who shouldn’t see them.
Installing and initial setup
Getting started is straightforward. After downloading and installing the application, the first run prompts you to create a master password. This password controls access to the Hide Files program itself and must be entered whenever you open the app to manage protected items.
Main interface and basic workflow
The program presents a clean, minimal interface with only a few function buttons. To protect an item, add it to the program’s list and then use the Lock command. Protected entries remain in the list, but the actual file or folder will be hidden from normal view until you unlock it from within the application.
- Add files or drives using the dedicated buttons on the toolbar.
- Select any item in the list and choose Lock to hide it.
- Unlock items from the same toolbar to restore visibility.
- Confirm protection by checking the original folder — the file should no longer be visible.
Drag-and-drop and context-menu options
If you prefer a quicker method, you can drag files or folders onto the Hide Files window; they’ll be added automatically. The program also supports context-menu actions: right-click a listed item to reveal Lock and Unlock choices without using the toolbar.
Why this tool helps
Hide Files is a compact utility focused on privacy with a low learning curve. It doesn’t require complex configuration—just a password and a few clicks to hide important documents. For anyone who shares a computer, it’s a practical way to keep personal or confidential files out of sight and under your control.
