Quick summary
Haikyuu Otome is an indie, otome-style experience inspired by the volleyball anime Haikyuu!! It places players in the shoes of a new high school student exploring campus life and club options. Keep in mind the project is currently in a pre-alpha state, so available features are very limited.
Getting started as a new student
You begin the game as a transfer student searching for a club to join. Two original NPCs—Alice and Richiyo—accompany you as you check out teams and extracurriculars. Club choices include:
- Soccer Club (as a managerial position rather than a player)
- Photography Club
- Art Club
- Boys’ and Girls’ Volleyball Clubs
Player identity and viewpoint
- You can assign your character a name and select their gender.
- Your visual appearance is preset and cannot be customized at this time.
- Much of the experience is presented from a first-person perspective, so fixed looks aren’t emphasized.
- If you join a sports club, your role will be limited to manager duties rather than active play.
Current limitations of the build
Because the project is still in pre-alpha, the playable content is minimal:
- The build mostly contains character introductions and the club-selection flow.
- Although the menu indicates three prefectures and six schools, only Karasuno High School is currently accessible.
- Canon characters from the anime have not been implemented yet; only the vice-principal appears so far.
- There are no enacted club activities or gameplay systems available yet.
What the early preview suggests
At present this release functions more like an early glimpse of the concept than a full game. Hardcore fans might enjoy imagining life alongside the volleyball cast, but the current build only introduces two original characters and lacks the broader cast and interactive club content fans often expect. Future updates may expand locations, add canonical characters, and introduce activity systems.
Alternative recommendation
If you’re looking for a deeper and more complete high-school or social-simulation experience right now, consider The Sims 4 (available as a free-to-play option) as an immediate alternative.
