GOM Mix Pro is a free video-editing application from GOM Lab that aims to be approachable for newcomers while still offering useful tools for more advanced users. The interface is designed to reduce menu hunting, so you can begin editing quickly. Although the name includes “Pro,” the core product is available at no cost; some additional media and features require purchasing add-ons or a full license.

Workspace layout and where to start

• Timeline pane (bottom): This is the main place to arrange clips, overlays, audio, text and images — drag files here to begin assembling your project.
• Sources & Effects (top right): Browse your media, text and clip-art, plus templates, overlays, filters and transitions from this panel and drag items into the timeline.
• Preview window (top left): Monitor playback, scrub through footage, and position or transform text and images directly on the screen.

Playback controls and clip preview

The Preview window includes a playback slider and basic transport buttons (Play, Stop, 1 second back, 1 second forward). Two viewing modes are provided:

• Clip Mode: Play only the selected clip or media item.
• Project Mode: Play the entire timeline sequence.

You can capture the preview output as a screenshot, and any text or image elements added to the project can be repositioned, resized, and rotated with click-and-drag gestures.

Media, templates and effect categories

• Transition: Animated scene changes that alter how clips flow into one another.
• Filter: Visual processing effects that change color, contrast, or overall look.
• Overlay clip: Short animated clips or graphics that sit over your main footage.
• Template: Pre-arranged sequences and layouts you can drop into your timeline.

Each category provides presets you can use immediately; however, some items are locked behind paid extras.

Timeline features and layer organization

• Image layer: Holds standalone pictures and graphical assets.
• Text layer: Stores title cards, captions and other text elements.
• Audio layer: Contains background music, narration, and sound effects.
• Overlay clip layer: For animated overlays and visual accents.
• Media source layer: The main video clips and footage tracks.
• Primary controls: Undo/Redo, Trim, Delete, Select Area, and Volume Control are accessible from the timeline toolbar.
• Project management: Options to create a new project, import media, save, and export appear at the far-right of the timeline bar; a zoom control and a duration display sit on a separate timeline strip.

The editor supports stacking these layers so you can composite multiple elements at once.

Licensing, add-ons and bundling

GOM Mix Pro’s free edition includes a wide range of tools and templates, but unlocking all bundled media and removing limitations requires purchasing:

• Full Version license: A one-time purchase that upgrades the free install.
• Extra Package: An add-on that unlocks additional media and assets.

Buying both removes ads and watermarks and lifts certain encoding limitations. The software is also available as part of bundles with other GOM applications.

GOM Mix Pro delivers a surprisingly capable, low-cost editing experience that’s friendly to beginners while offering many features intermediate users will appreciate. It supports common video formats and can export directly to services like YouTube and Google Drive.
