Extend Safari's capabilities with Glims
Glims is a Safari extension designed to broaden the browser's search-related features. It adds several conveniences to the search field and result handling to make finding information faster and more visual.
What it adds to search
- Shows the name of the selected search engine directly inside the search field for quicker identification.
- Lets you preview results with small thumbnail images beside search hits (note: this feature may affect speed and occasionally fail to render correctly).
- Provides suggestions for links and query terms, presented in a dark pop-up below the search box.
- Offers a long roster of search providers, including some unconventional choices such as Facebook, MTV and Expedia, all accessible from a drop-down and reorderable to suit your preferences.
Overall I found the tool helpful; the suggestion and engine-management features worked well. The thumbnail previews were the one feature that underperformed, both slowing browsing and sometimes not showing properly.

From the developer: installer and search list updates
The installer now includes a lightweight setup for users who only want the search-engine customizations. In addition, the developer added a few frequently used engines — including IXquick, DuckDuckGo and blekko — to the default list after noticing high download activity from those sources.

- Fixed a problem where preferences would not appear after restarting Safari.
