Quick overview
Gameloft Classics: Prime Games Collection is a retro-styled arcade anthology from Gameloft that bundles 30 of the studio’s most memorable mobile titles. Each entry is presented in its original 2D form so players can revisit classic visuals and straightforward pick-up-and-play mechanics.
Origins and company background
Gameloft was founded in 1999 by Michel Guillemot, one of the co-founders of Ubisoft. Unlike Ubisoft’s focus on consoles, Gameloft concentrated on mobile platforms early on, developing for Java and BREW environments. The studio produced original IP, adapted Ubisoft console hits, and created licensed games based on movies and other franchises. The Asphalt racing series became one of its standout franchises.
As Gameloft expanded, it sometimes drew criticism for echoing the design of big-name console titles. Still, the company earned praise for the polish of its releases. Its popularity continued into the smartphone era with hits such as Dungeon Hunter, Modern Combat, and Despicable Me: Minion Rush. In 2018 Gameloft changed hands when Vivendi completed a purchase of the studio.
Visual style and control layout
The collection preserves the classic pixel-and-sprite look of the originals to emphasize nostalgia. The interface is modelled after a retro handheld controller: a directional pad, four main action buttons, L and R shoulder buttons, and a central pause control — all implemented as touch controls for modern devices.
Game selection and how sessions work
Each round in the collection is deliberately short and arcade-focused:
- Sports and card-based games
- Action-heavy arcade experiences
- Casual titles centered on relationships or daily life
- Fast-paced shooting games
- Puzzle-oriented challenges
Every game session is limited to five minutes, and you must spend in-game coins to start a playthrough. A countdown timer is shown along the right edge of the screen. Coins can be earned through daily logins, or you can subscribe weekly or monthly to receive a steady allotment of coins for extended play.
Why it’s worth trying
The collection is a compact way to relive Gameloft’s earlier catalog without losing the feel of the originals. The pixel art and simple controls translate well to modern phones, making this a pleasant option for short bursts of casual or competitive play.
