Quick summary
Free Alarm Clock turns your PC into a flexible alarm device. It uses a clean, minimal interface to create multiple alarms for wake-ups, reminders, or short breaks—much like an alarm on a smartphone. You can also configure alarms to wake the machine from sleep or switch the monitor on.
Supported systems and languages
- Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 are supported.
- Not available for macOS.
- The interface is translated into several languages and includes help resources and tutorials via the Help menu.
How to create and schedule alarms
Setting up alarms is straightforward. The program lets you create a single occurrence or repeating alarms and choose which weekdays they should trigger (for example, weekdays only). The Add button opens the alarm editor where you name the alarm, set the time, and pick repeat options. There’s no limit on how many alarms you can create.
Sound selection and volume handling
- Pick from the included MP3 sounds, preview them before choosing, or select tracks from your personal music library.
- You control the alarm loudness: the app temporarily sets the system volume to a chosen level and then restores the previous volume after the alarm finishes.
- Be aware that temporarily changing the system volume can affect any other audio that’s playing when the alarm triggers.
Wake and display options (and one limitation)
You can configure an alarm to wake a sleeping desktop or to power on the monitor when it fires. One important caveat: alarms will not wake a laptop if its lid is closed, which may limit usefulness for some users.
Notifications, snooze, and alarm management
When an alarm activates, a desktop notification appears. You can snooze the alarm for a chosen interval or stop it. Stopping does not remove the alarm from your list—so it can be reused later. Alarms are easy to edit, delete, or duplicate (clone) as needed.
Alternatives and other approaches
- KM Wakeup
- ClockX
- PC Alarm Clock
- Alarm app
Some people prefer non-software options such as waking naturally, using a smartphone alarm, or employing a smart display (for example, Google Home Hub).
Verdict
Free Alarm Clock is a simple, no-frills program that makes it easy to schedule unlimited alarms on Windows machines. It’s ideal if you want a lightweight tool to remind you of tasks or to wake you up without a lot of extra features.
