Quick summary
FooBillard is a free, physics-driven pool simulator that began life on Linux and is now available for Windows. It launches immediately without an installer, so you can start shooting pool the moment you run the program.
Opening the menu and changing options
There is no visible configuration screen when the game first starts; press the Esc key to bring up the hidden menu. From there you can modify match parameters, pick opponents, and enable online play.
Match types and options
- Snooker, carom, 9-ball and 8-ball are all supported, giving you several rule sets to choose from.
- Championship, tournament and single-match formats let you play anything from a short game to a longer competitive run.
- Computer opponents, local human players or online matches are available so you can play solo, with a friend on the same machine, or over the Internet.
Presentation: visuals and audio
Despite a very simple presentation — the table sits against a dark backdrop — the ball movement and collisions look convincing thanks to realistic physics. The soundtrack is minimal, limited mostly to impact sounds when balls collide or strike cushions.
Suggested alternative
If you want another free option to try, consider 8 Ball Pool — Billiards Free, which offers a different take on online and local pool play.
