Square Enix has adapted the original title for modern touchscreens so longtime fans can play the classic wherever they go. The Android release follows the same plot as the original: you join Cloud Strife, a mercenary allied with the eco-activist group AVALANCHE, and travel with a memorable cast across the world of Midgar and beyond. The storyline and events are preserved without additions to the plot.

Controls have been reworked for touch devices. You can choose between a virtual analog stick or a fixed 4-way digital pad, and the on-screen controls include an opacity slider so they obstruct the view as little as possible.
