Product snapshot
FileMaker Pro makes it straightforward to organize people, projects and creative assets. Building and running your own database can feel overwhelming at first, but this release emphasizes an approachable balance of capability and ease-of-use so you can get started quickly without a steep learning curve.
Getting started quickly
The app opens to a compact Quick Start screen that centralizes common actions: create a new file, open an existing solution, or access learning resources and help. A single, simple interface reduces setup friction for new users and speeds routine tasks for experienced ones.
Sharing and distributing databases
Use the Send Link feature to generate an email containing a single clickable link that opens the target database. The message is produced in your mail client so you can add context, instructions, or other details before sending it to collaborators.
Administration without programming
If command-line stacks like MySQL, PHP or Oracle intimidate you, FileMaker Pro removes much of the technical barrier by offering administrative tools that require little or no scripting. Power users familiar with PHP/MySQL will still appreciate the visual layout and GUI-driven design tools, though the trade-off is less low-level control than hand-coded solutions.
Reporting and data visualization
New charting capabilities make it easy to turn records into readable visual summaries (bar charts, pie charts, etc.). You can also produce spreadsheet-style reports and benefit from an improved layout and report assistant to streamline common report-building tasks. While it won’t replace deep SQL/PHP expertise for advanced development, the friendly interface is ideal for novices and rapid prototyping.
Alternative option
Suggested alternative: macFUSE — available at no cost and useful for certain filesystem-level integrations and workflows.
