What this extension does
All Image Editors Turned into Extensions — External Editors for Photos is a macOS Photos extension that lets you open and edit photos from your library with virtually any external image editor installed on your Mac. When you use it, edits are applied back into your Photos library so you can work with familiar apps while keeping your library intact.
How to start editing
- Open Photos and double-click the picture you want to change.
- Click the Edit control in the upper-right corner of the window.
- From the row of icons that appears, choose the extension you want to launch and begin editing.
Adding images another way
You can also add pictures directly into the editor by dragging an image file onto the image area or pasting an image into the frame. The extension accepts either method so you can work with images from outside your library.
What happens to your originals
Edits made via the extension are saved straight back to your Photos library and replace the visible image in the library view. No permanent data is lost — Photos preserves the original file behind the scenes, and you can restore the unedited version if you decide you prefer it.
If you want to revert changes
If you don’t like the results, use Photos’ revert or undo options to recover the original image. The app keeps the prior version so recovery is straightforward.
