Game snapshot

Elsewhere Electric is a two-player cooperative puzzle built around an uneven split of information and control. Created by Games by Stitch, it’s playable on mobile devices, SteamVR headsets, and Meta Quest. One participant wears a VR headset and physically navigates a strange, puzzle-filled complex; the other uses a phone to view maps, schematics, and encoded cues from a distance.

Roles and viewpoints

  • Operator (mobile): watches layouts and ciphered symbols, decodes clues, relays directions, and supports the VR teammate from afar.
  • Installer (VR): explores rooms, manipulates objects with virtual hands, uses tools in first-person, and depends on the Operator’s instructions to progress.

This deliberate split in perspective is the game’s defining mechanic — solving many challenges requires precise communication and trust between the two players.

How the gameplay feels

The game blends exploration, environmental puzzles, and occasional survival tension. Players encounter locked systems, symbolic barriers, and mechanics that force them to combine what each sees: the VR player interacts with physical elements while the phone user interprets schematics and hidden codes. Resources can be scarce, and invisible hazards or creatures sometimes threaten the Installer, increasing the stakes and urgency.

Visual and audio design

Elsewhere Electric leans into a retro-futuristic aesthetic inspired by institutional architecture from the 1970s and 1980s. Expect analog devices, harsh, directional lighting, low mechanical hums, and flickering electronics that reinforce an unsettling mood. Moments of total darkness may occur, pushing the VR player to rely completely on the Operator’s guidance.

Highlights

  • Inventive asymmetry that rewards teamwork and clear, constant communication.
  • Strong, atmospheric presentation that distinguishes it from typical co-op puzzle games.
  • Tense, memorable moments created by invisible threats and limited resources.

Limitations to consider

  • Replay value is modest; once the puzzles are understood, incentives to revisit can be limited.
  • Some puzzles can feel overly cryptic, placing a large burden on players to decipher intent and symbols.
  • The experience depends heavily on both players being engaged and communicative; mismatched partners can reduce enjoyment.

Who might enjoy this

Players who like asymmetric co-op challenges, atmospheric tension, and puzzle design that emphasizes shared information will get the most out of Elsewhere Electric. Those seeking high replayability or straightforward puzzle progression may find it less satisfying over time.

Alternative recommendation

  • Consider Plants vs. Zombies (paid) if you prefer a more traditional, repeatable cooperative/competitive puzzle-style experience with clearer long-term goals.
