Edmonton on-demand service — quick overview
Edmonton’s on-demand transit offers flexible, point-to-point rides inside selected zones and links those areas to the city’s broader transit system. The service is intended to reduce waiting and remove the need to follow fixed bus timetables.
Who provides the service
The shuttle program is delivered by PWTransit Canada in collaboration with Via Transportation. Vehicles are operated and maintained by the provider team to meet municipal service standards.
How to book a ride
- Call the reservation line — speak with a representative to request a trip.
- Use the service website to create an account and schedule trips.
- Install the mobile app to book, manage and track rides on the go.
Account creation requires minimal information:
- Your email address
- A reachable phone number
- Your full name
After you’re signed in, confirm where you are, enter your destination, select a suitable ride option and complete the booking. If you book by phone, the agent will collect the same details and arrange the trip for you.
Real-time tracking and expected waits
The app shows an estimated arrival time before you confirm a trip, and you can follow the vehicle’s location live once a ride is assigned. Typical waits are:
- Under 30 minutes during the busiest periods
- Under 60 minutes during quieter times
Vehicles, drivers and safety
Shuttles are driven by professionally trained PWTransit drivers who follow safety and customer service procedures. The fleet is configured to provide a dependable and secure ride experience.
Accessibility and equipment requests
To help the operator prepare the right vehicle and crew, tell them about any special requirements when booking:
- Need for installed child safety seats
- Traveling with a baby stroller
- Wheelchair accessibility or mobility aids
Mention these needs in the app notes or tell the phone agent so accommodations can be scheduled.
Why this service exists
The on-demand option is used where a flexible, request-based model better suits travel demand than a fixed-route bus. Its goal is to improve access to transit, making connections to Edmonton’s regular network easier for residents and visitors.
