App summary and purpose
eCourts Services is a free mobile application that provides court-related information for India’s subordinate courts and a majority of high courts. Designed to make case data accessible on the go, the app is aimed at improving transparency and reducing the effort needed to obtain basic case details.
How case lookup works
The app’s primary lookup mechanism uses the CNR (Case Number Record) — a distinct identifier assigned to each matter through the Case Information System. Entering the CNR returns the current status, hearing dates, and other essential case particulars quickly.
Key capabilities
- Manage a personalized list of matters with the My Cases feature for quick reference.
- Browse scheduled hearings and timelines in the Calendar view.
- View daily or periodic Cause Lists to see matters listed for hearing.
- Check the present Case Status for up-to-date information on proceedings.
- Perform targeted searches by party name, advocate name, FIR number, case category, or applicable Acts to locate records without a CNR.
Intended users
- Members of the judiciary and court staff who need rapid access to case metadata.
- Advocates and legal practitioners tracking their dockets and clients’ matters.
- Litigants and ordinary citizens seeking information about pending cases.
- Police officials requiring links between FIRs and court cases.
- Government departments, institutional litigants, and other stakeholders who monitor litigation.
Availability and reach
The application is available at no cost on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. It is part of a nationwide effort to digitize court information, covering district courts across India and most high courts.
Project oversight
eCourts Services is delivered under the eCourts Mission Mode Project, a central initiative funded and overseen by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, with the goal of modernizing case information systems for the district judiciary.
