Dreams by Snapchat is a web-based tool that uses artificial intelligence to help people produce and personalize striking images. Using your own photos as a starting point, the feature creates stylized, AI-generated selfies that reflect different looks and themes. Snapchat offers two main modes — commonly called Dream On and Together — that power single-user transformations and collaborative images with friends.

How it operates

To use Dreams you submit a set of selfies that the AI analyzes and then generates multiple photo variants. The experience is designed to be playful and exploratory: pick a theme, tweak appearance options, and produce stylized portraits that range from whimsical to historical.

Key capabilities:

• The tool can include friends in generated scenes, provided those friends have agreed to participate.
• You can produce up to eight AI-generated selfies from your uploaded images.
• A variety of imaginative personas are available, such as mythical figures or period-costume looks (for example, mermaid or Renaissance-style appearances).

Availability and launch details

Dreams by Snapchat debuted on August 29, 2023. It began as a regional release in Australia and New Zealand and was scheduled for a broader rollout afterward. Availability may still be limited depending on your country as Snapchat expands the feature.

Cost structure and usage limits

Snapchat provides a number of free image generations when you first try Dreams, with in-app purchases offered for additional creations. Specifically, eight complimentary generations are included at the start; after that, extra credits or purchases are required to continue producing images.

Privacy, consent and collaboration

Because collaborative images rely on other people’s likenesses, the Together mode requires each participant to opt in before they can appear in an AI-generated scene. Users should keep regional limitations and consent requirements in mind when inviting friends to join a session.
