Build your own dragon legion

Who hasn’t imagined keeping a dragon as a pet? They’re adorable as babies, though things get more complicated once they start breathing fire. Dragon City lets you raise those creatures from egg to adult and turn them into a fighting force while you expand a floating city.

Quick game snapshot

Dragon City blends city-building with turn-based battles. You’ll hatch and raise dragons, develop habitats and farms, and send your creatures into arenas to face other players. The mobile version is free to download and play, but some items speed progress if you’re willing to spend real money.

Your duties: hatch, feed, and manage

As the city’s dragon keeper, your main tasks include finding eggs, hatching them, building suitable homes, and feeding young dragons until they’re battle-ready. You’ll also maintain production buildings (like farms and breeding towers) and upgrade structures to unlock stronger species and faster output.

To help you keep track, the game provides a task list that links directly to the building where each job must be completed — tap a task and you’ll be taken straight to the relevant spot.

Combat mechanics: strategic one-on-one duels

Battles are turn-based. You assemble a team of dragons (often two or more) and pit them against rivals in sequential one-on-one encounters. Each dragon gets moves or actions on its turn; matchups are decided by attack power, available skills, and remaining health.

Economy: coins, gems, and time

Dragon City uses two main currencies: coins (gold) and premium gems. Coins are common — you earn them by completing tasks and from dragons that generate income over time. Gems are rarer and usually require patience or purchases to acquire; they’re often used to accelerate breeding, speed up timers, or buy exclusive items.

Visuals and interface

The interface follows familiar mobile patterns with informative panels and clear menus. Dragon models evolve as you level up, and environments can be zoomed for a closer look. The visuals often shine more on tablets than on smaller phones.

The collection goal: catch them all

There are around 100 distinct dragons arranged in categories. The long-term aim is to collect them all, level them up, and use them in battles. Progress can slow if you run low on gems, but with time and strategy the game remains entertaining.
