What this app offers
Doozla is a kid-friendly drawing program from Plasq that makes sketching and coloring easy and enjoyable. It presents a large, attractive full-screen workspace and a straightforward toolset that is suitable for children, yet engaging enough that adults will have fun experimenting with it too.
Starting options
You can begin a project in a few different ways:
- Start with a blank canvas and create something from scratch.
- Snap a photo with your iSight/webcam and paint directly over your picture.
- Choose a premade coloring template and fill in one of Plasq’s quirky characters (examples include Bugsy the Beagle and Chester the Cat).
- Import an existing image to trace or embellish.
Tools and interaction
The app includes pencils, brushes and vector-based drawing tools that make coloring and line work smooth and forgiving. The color-fill tool has been refined for better precision, and the cursor icon has been updated for clearer feedback. There are playful audio cues to accompany actions, which can be disabled if you prefer silence.
Usability notes
Vector drawing improves the look of strokes and makes editing easier. The full-screen presentation creates an immersive creative environment; however, earlier versions emphasized full-screen only — the interface previously lacked a windowed option. Editing controls are intuitive enough for young children, and the overall experience is pleasant for casual adult users as well.
