Overview of the App on iPhone and iPad
Discord — listed on the App Store as "Discord - Talk, Chat, Hang Out" and built by Discord, Inc. — is a social networking app for iOS that helps you stay in touch with friends and groups. Designed for iPhone and iPad, it supports messaging, voice conversations, and video sharing so you can catch up and hang out from anywhere.
How Conversations Work
- Text channels are where most day-to-day chatting happens: share updates, links, photos, or anything you want others to see.
- Use emoji and reaction tools to add tone and quick responses to posts without typing a reply.
- Voice channels are automatically available when you create a server; tap the voice channel to join instantly and people can drop in to chat without dialing a call.
- While in voice, you get simple controls such as mute and disconnect so you can manage your presence quickly.
Media Sharing and Limits
You can send short videos and other attachments inside servers and direct messages, but keep in mind there’s a per-file upload cap of 8 MB on the standard account. Larger files may require external links or upgraded subscriptions.
Managing Communities and Access
- Create custom roles and set permission tiers to organize members around interests and responsibilities.
- Appoint moderators or create exclusive channels for selected members to keep conversations focused and safe.
- Use built-in moderation settings to enforce rules and maintain healthy server behavior.
Welcoming New Members (Simplified Onboarding)
- Configure the onboarding flow so newcomers see an introductory path when they join.
- Design role assignments and channel access rules that match how you want new members routed.
- Enable a welcome sequence that orients people to rules, roles, and key channels for a consistent first impression.
Voice Messages — Personal, Mobile-Friendly Audio
Voice messages are available on mobile in direct messages, group DMs, and on servers with fewer than 200 members, offering a more personal alternative to typed replies. These messages are processed with Krisp noise reduction to improve clarity and are playable across platforms.
How to leave a voice message (mobile):
- Start by recording a clip and confirm it’s what you want to send.
- Open the DM or group chat where you wish to share audio.
- Tap the voice-record control, record your message, then send when ready.
Stay Connected and Informed
Discord’s focus is on text-based community interactions, but it pairs those spaces with capable voice and media features so you can keep up with what’s happening among your friends and groups. Its moderation and permission tools give you control over how your community grows and who can access specific areas.
