Quick summary
DICTOCRACY puts you in charge of Adelphia as its inaugural president. The game is a point-and-click political simulator in which you are allowed one meaningful action per turn. You begin with limited resources and multiple competing demands from provinces, ministers, and foreign powers. Each decision alters approval across different constituencies and affects your administration’s stability.
Turn structure and core choices
Each day (turn) you are limited to a single major move. Your choice could be legislative, infrastructural, financial, or reactive — and it will ripple across the map and your cabinet relationships.
Primary actions available (examples)
- Respond to emergencies and unexpected events that require immediate attention.
- Reallocate or prioritize research and development funding to influence long-term outcomes.
- Invest in roads, hospitals, or schools to address local needs.
- Enact laws or pass policies that shift the political landscape.
Political management and domestic pressures
Public opinion is displayed province-by-province on a live map so you can see where discontent or support is concentrated. Provinces will demand jobs, security, and health services; ignoring them can lead to protests or even the end of your tenure. At the same time, ministers will lobby for bigger budgets or personal favors and may threaten to quit if you refuse them. Balancing voter approval with ministerial expectations is an ongoing strategic trade-off.
Crises, diplomacy, and risk management
Random events force you to reprioritize: sudden market collapses, border incidents, or ecological disasters can derail long-term plans. Opening diplomatic channels with neighboring states can unlock trade and strategic advantages but may also entangle Adelphia in international disputes.
Types of disruptive events (illustrative)
- Environmental disasters that damage infrastructure and public health.
- Cross-border tensions that raise security costs and diplomatic pressure.
- Economic slumps that reduce revenues and raise unemployment.
Narrative depth and outcomes
Passing laws and making hard choices unlocks branching stories that explore topics such as press freedom, industrialization, and civil rights. Your cumulative decisions determine which of several endings you reach, reflecting the values and priorities you pursued during your administration.
Visuals, sound, and interface
The presentation favors a clean, minimalist UI: policy cards, map overlays, and distinct character portraits convey the mood of each choice. A reactive soundtrack accentuates successes with bold brass and underscores setbacks with somber strings, reinforcing the emotional stakes of each decision.
Replay value and learning curve
DICTOCRACY is a compact, high-stakes simulator where every action matters, and that intensity can create a steep initial learning curve. The branching narratives and multiple endings, however, provide strong replayability as you experiment with different priorities and tactics.
Quick starter tips
- Prioritize hotspots shown on the provincial map to prevent unrest.
- Weigh ministerial demands against long-term public approval.
- Keep a reserve of funds for unexpected crises.
- Experiment with different policy mixes to reveal distinct story branches.
Note on optional content
A lighthearted alternate persona (listed in-game as “Mr. TomatoS”) is available at no cost for those who want a different roleplaying angle during their playthrough.
