Quick overview
Diablo Immortal is Blizzard Entertainment’s free-to-play MMORPG entry in the Diablo series, designed as a cross-platform title. The storyline sits between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III, letting players explore Sanctuary while confronting demonic forces threatening what remains of humanity. The game emphasizes cooperative and competitive multiplayer, high-quality visuals, and an original narrative thread that expands the franchise lore.
Pick a hero
Players create a character by selecting one of six distinct classes. Each class offers a suite of unlockable abilities and the flexibility to change your class later on.
- Necromancer
- Monk
- Crusader
- Demon Hunter
- Wizard
- Barbarian
Each class has up to 12 skills to unlock, and you can map five active skills into quick-access slots at any one time. The game also adds deeper specialization options through Paragon-style progression trees.
Combat systems and progression
Diablo Immortal departs from some long-standing franchise mechanics and introduces streamlined systems to suit fast-paced multiplayer combat.
- Traditional resource pools such as mana have been replaced by cooldown timers for most abilities.
- An ultimate meter charges as you attack; when filled it grants access to a powerful ability or tactical advantage.
- Skill customization comes from class affixes and the new Paragon Trees that further define playstyle.
These changes were partly driven by the game’s original mobile-first design, encouraging immediate, action-oriented encounters.
Crafting and materials
The crafting overhaul gives players more control over item creation and reduces the frustration of wholly random drops.
- Hellslayer Bounties
- Oblivion Pillars
- Terror Rifts
- Open-world nodes and wilderness gathering
With gathered Iron and Silver Ore, players can forge Legendary items at the Blacksmith. Crafted Legendary gear guarantees at least one class-specific affix; Skill Stones can be made with multiple class-related bonuses. A scarce crafting resource, Rhodolite, enables adding a chosen class attribute to an item to limit unwanted randomness.
The Epoch of Madness — a new content arc
Diablo Immortal launched an extended content cycle titled the Epoch of Madness, beginning with the Writhing Wilds update. This era is structured around several major content drops planned to introduce new zones, story missions, systems, and equipment—expanding the endgame and narrative scope.
Writhing Wilds expansion — what’s changed
The Writhing Wilds update expanded the world and refreshed many systems:
- Introduction of the Sharval Wilds, a Fey-tainted area tied to the update’s story.
- A redesigned Battlegrounds map with altered PvP objectives and new strategic layers.
- Three additional Legendary Gems that provide new options for builds.
- Elite monsters now drop specialized crafting components for class-specific gear.
These additions aim to deepen both PvE and PvP experiences while offering new avenues for character customization.
Live-service content: seasons and events
The game continues evolving through seasonal Battle Passes and limited-time celebrations.
- Season 15’s Battle Pass introduced the Blood Knight, a class focused on dual-wielding polearms.
- The Destruction’s Wake anniversary event adds time-limited challenges and exclusive rewards.
Expect ongoing seasonal rotations that bring fresh challenges and reward tracks.
Technical notes and content advisory
Because Diablo Immortal was initially created for mobile platforms, the PC version has relatively modest system requirements but isn’t always fully optimized for desktop play. Players may encounter occasional connectivity and gameplay hiccups in some areas. As with previous Diablo titles, the game contains mature themes, including intense violence, blood, and gore.
