Official adaptation of the Drone Champions League
Drone Champions AG and Climax Studios have produced DCL - The Game, the official video game adaptation of the live Drone Champions League (DCL). This simulator recreates the spirit of the world’s largest drone racing series and gives players control of racing drones across more than 30 crafted circuits, from LAAX’s snow halfpipe to the ancient castle ruins around Reutte. The title also includes reproductions of real DCL events, each designed to test and sharpen your piloting abilities.
Flight types you can choose
- Acro (manual) — Full manual control for authentic racing physics. This mode gives you complete command of the aircraft and is aimed at experienced pilots; mastering it takes time but rewards with the truest racing experience.
- Angle (stabilized) — A self-leveling option common on beginner or hobby drones. It’s forgiving for newcomers but restricts advanced maneuvers and top-tier racing performance.
- GPS (assisted) — Adds stabilization and altitude hold, making the drone behave like a standard camera UAV. Useful for practicing smooth flight paths and for filming-style flying.
- Arcade (simplified) — Automatic altitude control and simplified inputs make this mode the most approachable for fast-paced track racing.
Controls and hardware options
- Transmitter — For the most authentic feel and to build real-world skills, use an external radio transmitter. This is the recommended setup if you aim to practice for live selection events or competitive racing.
- Gamepad — A comfortable middle ground for most players; works well in Arcade and GPS modes and provides a more tactile experience than keyboard controls.
- Keyboard — Accessible for beginners and casual players, particularly in simplified modes like Arcade, but less precise for advanced flying.
Presentation: visuals and audio
DCL - The Game delivers strong, immersive visuals that help sell each race venue and make flying through complex courses satisfying. However, the audio mix has been criticized by some players: the constant, high-volume drone noise can be fatiguing and may prompt you to lower or mute the sound to avoid distraction.
Online competition and community play
The game supports synchronous online race flow, enabling head-to-head competition against pilots worldwide. You can join regular networked tournaments or take part in special event challenges tailored to different skill levels. These online features make it a compelling pick for anyone interested in competitive drone racing simulations.
Other options to consider
If you want an alternative experience focused heavily on realistic quad physics and a different progression model, consider Liftoff (a paid title), which is well-regarded within the sim community.
