Quick snapshot
Crab Game is a first-person multiplayer survival title made by indie developer Dani. While the creator has denied direct ties, the game closely follows the premise of Netflix’s Squid Game: many players face a series of children’s-style challenges until a single winner remains. Matches support up to 40 contestants across more than ten maps and modes.
Core gameplay and influences
The match structure mirrors the TV series’ elimination format, with players taking part in short mini-games like “Red Light, Green Light” and bridge-crossing challenges. Unlike many other homages, Crab Game is played from a first-person view and adds combat mechanics — melee items and firearms can be used to gain an edge over opponents.
- Fast rounds that emphasize reaction and positioning
- A mix of classic and custom mini-games spanning multiple arenas
- Combat elements (melee and ranged) that change the tactics
Hosting, public play and social features
You can create a private lobby to play with friends or join one of the public servers to compete against strangers. Proximity voice chat is available so players can talk to nearby opponents during matches. Public rooms increase the chance of encountering problematic behavior, so choose hosts and servers carefully.
- Option to run your own private server
- Public servers listed for quick matchmaking
- Local voice chat that links to player proximity
Cosmetics, drops and crafting
Cosmetic items are available through the in-game store and random crate drops. Examples of unique cosmetics include a Midnight Fedora, Vibrant Backpack, and a novelty banana hat. Crates drop after matches and contain over 50 different cosmetic variations in various rarities and finishes.
If you prefer control over RNG, a crafting system lets you assemble crates: each crate requires 20 Rags. Rags come from permanently recycling unwanted inventory items — once recycled, those items cannot be recovered.
- Store-only cosmetics and rare crate drops
- Recycle items to collect Rags for crafting
- Crates include many variations and rarity levels
Should you try it?
If you enjoyed Squid Game or party-style competitive shooters, Crab Game is likely to appeal. It recreates many of the show’s mini-games while adding its own twists and higher player counts. That said, playing on public servers can expose you to cheaters and abusive players, so prioritize private lobbies or trusted servers when possible.
