Overview: what Clutch provides

Clutch is a web-based interface for the Transmission BitTorrent client on macOS. It gives you browser access to a Transmission instance running on a Mac, so you can manage downloads remotely. The app is straightforward and designed to let you control torrents from any computer on the same network or over the internet once configured.

Getting started and configuration

First, make sure Transmission is installed and actively downloading torrents on the Mac. Then install the Clutch bundle. Launch Clutch and enable both the Daemon and the WebUI from the Clutch menu. During setup you will create a username and password and be shown the URL you can use to reach your Transmission client from other machines — save that address for later.

Once these steps are complete, you can open that URL in a browser and sign in to manage your downloads remotely.

Remote controls you can use

• View detailed information about individual torrents (progress, peers, etc.)
• Apply filters to narrow the torrent list
• Open torrent files or magnet links through the UI
• Pause and resume transfers as needed

Known limitations and user interface notes

Clutch is built around the capabilities of an older Transmission release (around version 0.82), so it does not expose newer features added to recent Transmission builds. The visual design also feels dated compared with more modern web front ends. Despite these shortcomings, it remains a practical way to control Transmission from the web when you need basic remote management.

• uTorrent (Free) — a commonly recommended alternative if you prefer a different client or a more up-to-date web interface.
