Clonezilla is a free backup and recovery tool that creates exact disk images and clones partitions so systems can be restored after serious failures. It uses imaging and cloning techniques to produce copies that can be recovered when needed, offering functionality similar to utilities such as Symantec Ghost.

Editions and When to Use Them

• Clonezilla Live is intended for single-machine use, making it convenient for one-off backups and restores on individual PCs.
• Clonezilla Server Edition (SE) is built for large-scale deployments. It can clone dozens of computers at once — over 40 terminals simultaneously — and has been demonstrated restoring at roughly 8 GB per minute using multicast with high-end, clustered hardware.

Clonezilla handles a wide range of file systems and includes strong encryption options to protect stored images.
