Clone Phone – OnePlus is a complimentary migration utility designed to move personal data from one handset to another. It can copy a range of items between Android devices and has limited support for iOS, but several restrictions and reliability problems make it less convenient than it might appear. Backups can be stored locally or on another device, although the local and external backup locations aren’t the same. Users also report frequent connection drops and repeated attempts required to establish a link between phones.

What can be transferred

• Media (photos, videos) and other personal files
• Contacts and address-book entries
• Text messages and SMS records
• Installed apps from the user profile
• Built-in system apps (with restrictions on non-OnePlus models)

Notes:

• iOS devices are largely limited to moving photos and contacts only.
• Some apps that aren’t compatible will be skipped during migration.
• Sensitive items such as payment card details, biometric data (fingerprints), saved passwords and other secure credentials are not transferable.

How transfers operate

The app uses a direct device-to-device connection (a mobile hotspot) to perform migrations. To create that connection it disables your current Wi‑Fi and mobile data, which can cause complications if the hotspot fails or is unstable. For optimal speeds, the two phones should be very close together — around 5 cm — and putting them much farther apart (for example, a couple of meters) will slow the process noticeably. If a transfer is interrupted, the app will pause and can resume from where it left off provided both devices reconnect within 24 hours.

Also be aware that the locations used for saving local backups differ from those used for external-device backups, so files may end up in different folders depending on the backup target.

Key limitations and common problems

• A hard transfer cap of 5 GB — too small for many users with large media libraries.
• Unreliable connections: transfers may stop unexpectedly and often require several attempts to link devices.
• Limited iOS support restricts migrating most app data and many item types.
• Different save destinations for local vs. external backups can be confusing.
• Some apps and secure information cannot be moved at all, increasing manual setup work on the new device.

Practical recommendations

• Keep both phones very close (within a few centimeters) during migration to speed up the process.
• Charge both devices or keep them plugged in to avoid interruptions from low battery.
• Transfer in smaller batches if you hit the 5 GB limit or experience frequent dropouts.
• If you have large media collections or need to preserve passwords/secure credentials, consider an alternative backup/migration method in addition to this app.
• If a transfer pauses, reconnect both devices as soon as possible — within 24 hours — so the operation can resume.
