Quick summary

Blasphemous Mobile is a fan-created, free-to-play adaptation of The Game Kitchen’s acclaimed Metroidvania, rebuilt for handheld devices by a solo developer known as Lannpi. It attempts to reproduce the original’s side-scrolling action, gothic pixel art, and the grim tale of the Penitent One, with touch-friendly controls. While the project shows promise, it remains incomplete and has noticeable performance and content gaps.

Setting and narrative

The adventure unfolds in the cursed realm of Cvstodia, where the Penitent One travels through ruined landscapes, facing waves of enemies and imposing bosses as he searches for the source of a deep corruption. Themes of remorse, sacrifice, and religious symbolism anchor the story here as in the original — though this mobile rendition doesn’t yet deliver the same narrative depth due to missing sections and an unfinished main plot.

Visuals and sound design

One of the port’s strongest elements is its presentation. The remake preserves the original’s detailed pixel art, macabre character designs, and visceral animations, scaled down for smaller screens. The soundtrack complements the atmosphere effectively, helping to maintain immersion even where other features fall short.

Controls, performance, and fidelity

Lannpi has remapped combat and movement for touch controls, and the core mechanics are recognizable. However, some mechanics from the original don’t translate well to this version, and there are occasional quality drops and optimization issues. Because sizable portions of the map and certain gameplay systems are still missing, the experience doesn’t yet match the polish or completeness of the original Blasphemous.

What to expect going forward

This fan port is clearly a work in progress. Its strengths — faithful art direction and a committed effort to adapt control schemes for mobile — make it worth watching, but it needs the remainder of the map, restored mechanics, and technical polish before it can be considered a faithful mobile equivalent of the original game.
