Inspect any file, regardless of format
Binary Viewer is a compact utility that lets you open and examine files at the binary level. It supports every file type and reveals both raw data and organized information so you can understand structure, values, and metadata without changing the original file.
Getting started and opening files
After installation you’ll see a central workspace where you can drop files directly into the main pane. Alternatively, use the file picker to browse and open a file from disk. The interface is designed for quick access so you can start inspecting content immediately.
Viewing and interpreting data
- Switch between Little- and Big-Endian representations to interpret multi-byte values correctly.
- Examine hexadecimal bytes alongside their file offsets to pinpoint exact locations.
- View the corresponding ASCII (or other character set) interpretations for readable sections.
These display modes help you identify patterns, locate specific byte sequences, and understand how binary data maps to text or structured fields.
Metadata and file properties
- See who last saved the file and review revision information.
- Check timestamps such as creation, last modified, and last accessed.
- Inspect additional attributes like file size, company or author fields, and other embedded properties.
Having these details visible makes it easier to audit files or confirm provenance while you inspect raw content.
Performance and reliability
The program is lightweight and uses minimal RAM and CPU, so it remains responsive even on older systems. It typically runs smoothly without causing system instability, making it suitable for advanced users who need a dependable inspection tool.
Tools for searching and customization
- Open physical drives and raw devices for low-level examination.
- Jump directly to a specific offset or set bookmarks for quick navigation.
- Copy selected text or bytes for use in other tools.
- Search within files for text encodings (UTF-8, Unicode, ASCII) as well as binary patterns and hexadecimal sequences.
- Print views, change font and display settings, and switch viewing modes to match your workflow.
- Quick-access utilities such as a character map and calculator are included, and you can customize color schemes for easier reading.
These utilities and preferences let you tailor the viewer to different tasks, whether you’re reverse engineering, troubleshooting file corruption, or simply exploring file contents.
