Where to find the battery indicator in Windows 10

On Windows 10, the battery icon lives in the system tray (the right end of the taskbar). If the icon is visible you can hover the mouse over it to see the current charge percentage and remaining time. By default Windows only shows a battery glyph; the numeric percentage is displayed in the tooltip when you hover.

If the battery icon is hidden, it will be in the overflow area (the small up-arrow on the taskbar). You can reveal it there or move it back onto the main taskbar for easier access.

Turn the system power icon on

If you don't see a battery icon at all, enable it from Taskbar settings:

  1. Right‑click an empty spot on the taskbar and choose Taskbar settings.
  2. In the Taskbar settings page, scroll to the Notification area and click Turn system icons on or off.
  3. Find Power in the list and switch it to On.

After that the battery icon should appear in the tray. Hovering over it will show the current percentage.

Move the battery icon out of the overflow menu

To make the battery icon permanently visible on the main taskbar:

  • Click the small up-arrow on the taskbar to open the overflow tray.
  • Click and drag the battery icon from the overflow area onto the main taskbar area.
  • If desired, open Taskbar settings → Select which icons appear on the taskbar and enable the Power item so it’s always shown.

These steps ensure the icon stays visible without having to open the overflow menu.

Display the percentage continuously (third-party tools)

Windows 10 doesn’t by default display the numeric battery percentage next to the icon on the taskbar. If you prefer to see the percentage at all times, use a lightweight third‑party utility. One popular free option is BatteryBar Free, which can show the exact percentage and more detailed stats directly on the taskbar.

Other alternatives include small tray utilities that display percentage, charge history, or wear-level info — choose one that’s compatible with Windows 10 and from a trusted source.

Short troubleshooting notes

  • If the Power toggle is missing in system icons, restart your PC and check again.
  • Make sure Windows is up to date; missing icons can sometimes be fixed by installing the latest updates.
  • If the battery icon behaves erratically, try restarting Explorer (Task Manager → Windows Explorer → Restart).

These tips should help you find or show the battery percentage information in Windows 10 and, if you prefer, keep the numeric percentage visible at all times.
