Overview of Battery Mode
Battery Mode, developed by Tarasov Artyom, replaces the standard Windows battery indicator with a richer, more flexible status popup. It provides a clearer view of your power situation, lets you select from all available power plans, and adds several automation and display controls that the default system tray icon lacks. The program is available at no cost, including a portable edition, and supports multiple languages.
Main capabilities
- Schedule-based automatic switching between power plans (set thresholds and times).
- Direct control of screen backlight for internal displays and compatible external monitors.
- Portable installation option and multilingual support.
- Instant scheme switching via user-defined keyboard shortcuts.
- Full listing of system power schemes and easy selection.
- Free to download and use.
Automated power scheduling
You can create rules that change the active power plan automatically. Examples:
- Set your machine to use a high-performance plan once the battery reaches a specified charged level.
- Apply a balanced profile when the system is connected to AC power.
- Switch to a power-saver profile automatically when the battery percentage drops beneath a chosen threshold.
Schedules are fully editable, so you can build multiple rules and tailor them to different scenarios (work, travel, presentations, etc.).
Display and brightness controls
Battery Mode includes integrated brightness management:
- Adjust the backlight for the built-in screen and for external monitors that support DDC/CI or the I2C interface.
- Prevent automatic changes to brightness when switching power profiles by enabling the fixed brightness option.
- If your device exposes it, toggle adaptive brightness from the brightness control panel adjacent to the slider.
Note: External monitor brightness control requires that the monitor implement the relevant interfaces (DDC/CI or I2C).
Fast access with hotkeys
If you prefer not to open the app window, assign custom hotkeys to switch between power plans instantly. This provides a quick way to change behavior (for example, toggle to Power Saver before a long battery-powered session) without interrupting your workflow.
Who benefits most
Battery Mode is especially useful for laptop owners who want more control over power behavior and display brightness than the built-in Windows indicator provides. Its automation, hotkeys, and external-display support make it a strong, user-friendly alternative for managing battery and performance profiles.
