Recovering files after data corruption
Data corruption can strike suddenly and leave important files unreadable. While there is no absolute fix for every situation, BadCopy Pro can attempt to rescue information from damaged media. It works by scanning for readable fragments and rebuilding files where possible—an imperfect but often useful option when other recovery methods fail.
Media and devices it can inspect
- USB flash drives and other removable USB media
- Iomega Zip drives, Jazz cartridges and Magneto-Optical (MO) disks
- Memory cards from digital cameras (SD cards and similar formats)
- DVD formats including DVD-ROM, DVD+R/W and DVD-R/W
- CD formats such as CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW
- Floppy disks and other legacy removable floppy media
- Multi-session discs and CD sets spanning several recording sessions
- Optical disc burns that failed or produced write errors
What it can do (and what it won’t promise)
- Scan storage media for read errors and attempt to extract intact file data
- Recover pictures and other files from digital camera cards and removable drives
- Pull data from multiple sessions on one disc so older files aren’t ignored
- Try to repair or retrieve data from badly burned or partially unreadable CDs and DVDs
- No absolute success guarantee — results vary by damage level and media condition
Bottom line
BadCopy Pro is a practical tool to try when files become corrupted. It doesn’t guarantee recovery, but it often recovers at least some data from otherwise unreadable or damaged media, making it worth attempting before giving up on lost files.
