AutoPlayStopper is a free add-on for Google Chrome designed to stop videos from starting on their own. It prevents auto-playing media and reduces interruptions from unwanted video ads, replacing playing content with a static preview image until you decide to watch.
How it operates
Instead of letting a video play automatically, the extension displays a thumbnail or placeholder. Playback begins only when you click the thumbnail. The extension also disables Flash detection and prefers HTML5 players, making it possible to reliably halt media playback on most pages.
