Brief overview
ArsClip is a free, feature-rich clipboard utility that captures multiple copied items — both images and plain text — and keeps them available for quick reuse. It runs as a portable program (an optional installer is included) and presents your recent clips in a compact pop-up menu that you can summon with a hotkey, a mouse action, or other triggers.
Cost and setup
- The software is freeware and can be used without installing it on your PC.
- An installer is bundled with the download if you prefer to set up the program more permanently or adjust default options.
- A version that works with Android devices is offered in addition to the Windows release.
Core functionality
ArsClip maintains a short history of copied items and provides fast access to them:
- Up to 15 items (images and text) are kept in the active popup cache.
- When that limit is exceeded, the oldest clip is moved to a “Removed Clips” store so it no longer occupies the active list.
- If the Removed Clips area fills, its oldest entries are removed permanently to free space.
- Clips in the Removed Clips area are not expected to impact system performance.
Opening the clip menu and common controls
- The default keyboard shortcut to bring up the ArsClip menu is CTRL+Shift+Z, but you can remap this.
- You can also open the popup with a right-click command or by triggering a window-based activation.
- The popup lists the most recent items with an icon that indicates whether the entry is an image or text; images are shown with their dimensions and text items show a short excerpt.
Preview, copy and paste
- Selecting an entry shows a preview: image thumbnails on one side and text content on the other.
- The interface displays the current counts for popup clips and removed clips near the preview.
- A “Configure sizes” control is available to adjust thumbnail/preview dimensions and related sizing options.
Interface structure and navigation
The main UI keeps controls on the left and content on the right, with clear sections for managing behavior and appearance:
- Databases
- Permanent clips / macros
- About / help
- History
You’ll find quick links, explanations, and the contents of the selected clip displayed in the right pane. The bottom of the window offers a Search box for locating stored items and a Save button to preserve any configuration changes.
Customization and options
ArsClip includes many settings for both look and function:
- Appearance: change color schemes, fonts, visibility and popup presentation.
- Behavior: reorder the clip menu, tweak how many items are shown, and enable or disable clipboard monitoring.
- Advanced features: options for global sharing between devices, macro/permanent clip handling, and various popup triggers. Configuration categories you’ll see include (but are not limited to):
- Optional features
- Popup presentation
- Popup hotkeys
- Clipboard monitoring
- Configuration help
- Popup
You can return to the configuration window at any time to refine preferences. After making changes click Save to apply them.
File types and sharing
ArsClip supports multiple clip formats and sharing modes:
- Unicode, Rich Text, HTML, and regular file copy operations are supported.
- An optional “Global Clipboard” feature can synchronize clips across Windows and Android devices.
